How WhatsApp Business API pricing works
Your WhatsApp bill has two independent parts: Meta’s messaging charges and your platform subscription. Meta charges for template messages you send, based on the message category and the recipient’s country. The platform, such as Chatbox AI, charges for the inbox, chatbot, broadcasts, automation and analytics.
Meta’s charges are the same whichever Business Solution Provider you use, so comparing platforms is really about features, support and subscription price.
The four message categories
Marketing templates carry offers, launches, re-engagement and abandoned-cart nudges, and are the most expensive category. Utility templates confirm something the customer already did: order confirmations, shipping updates, payment reminders. Authentication templates deliver one-time passwords.
Service conversations are the replies you send when a customer messages you first. They are free, which is why click-to-chat links, QR codes and Click-to-WhatsApp ads are such cost-effective entry points.
How to reduce your WhatsApp API costs
Classify templates correctly, a genuine order update approved as utility costs a fraction of a marketing message. Segment broadcast audiences instead of blasting your full list, and drive customers to message you first with wa.me links and ads so more of your conversation volume is free.
Finally, measure: Chatbox AI analytics show delivery, read and reply rates per campaign so you can cut the templates that don’t convert.

No. They are approximate India rates published by Chatbox AI (marketing ₹0.58, utility ₹0.14, authentication ₹0.12, service free), last updated Sept 2026. Meta revises its rate card periodically, rates differ by recipient country, and GST may apply, so treat the result as a planning estimate.
Are these WhatsApp rates exact?
Are service conversations free on WhatsApp? Yes. Replies to conversations a customer starts are free. Meta currently does not charge for free-form service replies sent inside the 24-hour customer service window.
Is the Chatbox AI subscription included in Meta’s charges? No. Meta’s messaging charges are billed separately from your Chatbox AI plan. Starter costs ₹999 per month and Growth costs ₹2,999 per month, and every plan includes a 7-day free trial. The calculator adds your selected plan so you can see the total.
What is the cost of sending 10,000 WhatsApp marketing messages in India? At the approximate India rate of ₹0.58 per marketing message, 10,000 messages cost about ₹5,800 in Meta charges before taxes. Add your platform fee, for example ₹2,999 on the Chatbox AI Growth plan, for a total of roughly ₹8,799 for the month.
Do I pay for messages that are not delivered? Under Meta’s per-message model, template messages are charged when they are delivered. Messages that fail to deliver, for example to numbers not on WhatsApp, are generally not charged. Check Meta’s latest pricing documentation for current rules.
Why is marketing more expensive than utility? Meta prices marketing templates higher to protect users from spam and keep WhatsApp a high-trust channel. Utility and authentication messages are transactional and expected by the customer, so they cost much less, roughly a quarter of a marketing message in India.
